The Second Half of the Ritual

Why this conditioner exists

Bồ Kết cleanses mildly — but saponins do not condition. In the south, where coconut palms grow, oil pressed from the flesh was worked through the lengths to return the softness that washing takes. Maison Bạch translates that traditional practice into a modern conditioner — formulated for hair that loses moisture faster than most.

Mechanism

Lauric acid shaft penetration

Most plant oils coat the hair surface. Coconut oil’s high concentration of lauric acid — a medium-chain fatty acid — is small enough to penetrate the hair shaft. Published studies show it reduces protein loss during washing more effectively than mineral oil or sunflower oil.

Best For

Thick, curly, dry, or processed hair

Hair with a naturally more open cuticle prone to moisture loss. Hair that has been coloured, bleached, or heat-styled. The richness that would weigh down fine hair is exactly what this hair type needs.

Why it works

Less swelling, less protein lost

When hair absorbs water it swells, and that repeated swelling lifts protein out of the fibre. By occupying space within the shaft, coconut oil limits how much water the fibre takes up — reducing the swelling, and the protein loss that comes with it.

Not sure this is right for you?

Rice water or coconut — how to choose

The Coconut Conditioner uses a lauric acid penetration mechanism — ideal for hair with a more open cuticle and higher moisture loss. If your hair is fine, straight, or oilier, the Rice Water Conditioner may serve you better.

01

After shampooing

Apply generously to mid-lengths and ends. Can also be used as a pre-wash treatment.

02

Leave for 3–5 minutes

Allow lauric acid time to penetrate deeply into the hair shaft.

03

Rinse thoroughly

Even a rich conditioner should rinse clean — no residue on the scalp.

Where softness lives

Light or rich
— a matter of hair, not quality

Our shampoo is built to leave as little behind as possible. The softness comes here, in the second step — applied to the lengths, where hair actually needs it.

How much care that is depends on your hair. Fine hair that is easily weighed down needs less. Thick, curly or dry hair needs more. So we made two conditioners, rather than one that tries to suit everyone.
