Our Philosophy
Looking Back
to Move Forward
Every time I encounter a problem,
I ask myself the same question.
The best is
for the guest.
In a Vietnamese home, care is rarely announced. It is simply done.
When someone comes to visit, the best piece of fruit is set aside for them. The finest part of the meal finds its way into their bowl. A cup of tea is placed in their hands before they ask. Nobody explains it. It is simply what you do for a guest.
I think of this whenever I think of Maison Bạch. The people who choose our products are not customers to me. They are guests. And when someone enters your home, you give them your best.
That is why we do not make what is simply good enough. We make what I would be proud to give to a guest in my own home. It is also why we take the time to question every ingredient and remove what does not earn its place. Giving someone your best means doing the work behind it.
How did we care for ourselves before any of this existed?
It is a simple question, yet it has shaped everything behind Maison Bạch.
Growing up in a Vietnamese family, I was surrounded by traditions that were never written down in books. They were passed from one generation to the next — through observation, patience, and daily rituals. My grandparents, who lived remarkably long and healthy lives, never relied on shelves full of products. They trusted simple botanical ingredients, prepared by hand — and preparing them was itself a way of looking after the people you loved. The knowledge was refined over centuries. So was the care.
As I grew older, I began to wonder what had happened to that wisdom.
What if some of the answers
were never truly lost?
Modern life has brought incredible scientific progress, yet our routines have also become increasingly complicated. New products appear every day, each promising a miracle. Ingredient lists grow longer. Marketing grows louder. Yet many people continue to struggle with irritated scalps, dryness, imbalance, and damaged hair.
That contrast made me curious.
They learned through experience which plants cleansed gently, which nourished deeply, and which rituals supported healthy hair over time. They learned because they had no other choice. And in learning that way — slowly, empirically, across generations — they accumulated something remarkable.
Tradition deserves to be
understood, not simply repeated.
At Maison Bạch, we do not romanticize the past, nor do we reject modern science. Instead, we bring the two together.
Every botanical we study begins with a question: Why did it work? Every formula continues with another: How can modern science make it even better?
This philosophy guides every decision we make — from researching Vietnamese botanicals such as Bồ Kết and fermented rice water, to creating formulations that respect the scalp rather than overwhelm it.
We believe healthy hair begins long before the strands themselves. It begins with a healthy scalp. It begins with balance instead of excess. It begins with choosing fewer, better ingredients.
Maison Bạch is not about returning to the past. It is about carrying the wisdom of the past into the future. By combining centuries-old botanical traditions with modern research, we hope to create products that are thoughtful, effective, and made to stand the test of time.
Because sometimes, the most meaningful innovation begins with remembering how we once cared for one another.
We show
you why.
If you are a guest in someone’s home, you should know what you are being offered. That is why I show you what is behind everything we make.
For every ingredient, we tell you what it is, why it is there, and where it comes from. For every claim, we tell you what supports it, and how strong that support is. Centuries of traditional use are real knowledge, and we treat them as such. But they are not the same as clinical evidence, and we will never present one as the other.
We attach our claims to the whole formulation, not to a single ingredient. We do not borrow evidence from a related plant. And where we do not yet know something, we say so.
This is also how I work behind the scenes. I am a CPA, and accountants are trained to ask one question of every number: can you show me? I know how easy it is to say more than you can prove. Every formulation is assessed for safety under EU cosmetics regulation, and I answer for it myself.
Our Beliefs
Seven things we hold
to be true.
We believe the best is for the guest, and that a guest deserves to know exactly what they are given.
We believe healthy hair begins where care begins — at the scalp.
We believe tradition should be questioned, studied, and refined — not forgotten.
We believe nature offers remarkable ingredients when understood through science.
We believe simplicity is often more powerful than excess.
We believe true luxury is not excess, but care — quality, craftsmanship, and the feeling of being looked after.
We believe the future of hair care can be built by learning from the past.
Four Formulation Rules
The filters every formula
must pass.
I
Every ingredient must earn its place
Function first. If an ingredient is present, it does something documented. If it cannot be justified at its concentration, it is removed.
II
No fairy dusting
An ingredient listed for label appeal at trace concentration is a lie to the consumer. We will not do it, regardless of what it would allow us to claim on the front of the packaging.
III
Alignment with Vietnamese botanical tradition
If an ingredient has no meaningful place in the history of Vietnamese hair care, it needs an extraordinary scientific justification to be included. Trend is not justification.
IV
Show the reasoning
If we say it, we can show you why. Every claim comes with what supports it, how strong that support is, and what we do not yet know. We would rather say less than say more than we can prove.
What we promise
Bạch is white. Nothing hidden beneath.
Something is only pure if you can see all the way through it. So we show you.
Every ingredient, and why it is there
We publish the complete INCI list for every product, with a plain explanation of what each ingredient does. Not only the botanicals we like to talk about, but the surfactants, the emulsifiers and the preservatives too.
The percentages that matter
We name the concentration of every active ingredient. An active that is listed but underdosed does nothing. If it earns a place on our label, we tell you how much of it is in the bottle.
Where our botanicals grow
Bồ Kết from the highlands of northern Vietnam. Fermented rice water, longan, lychee, each traced back to its source. We name the origin, not just the plant.
Every formula is developed to European cosmetic standards and safety-assessed under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 before it reaches you.
"The past taught us how to care. Science taught us why it works. Our guests remind us who it is for."
